Castlethorpe Craft Club

Craft Club

The Craft Club began in 1998 and is open to anyone interested in crafts.
Crafts include Cross Stitch, Bobbin lace making, Card making (e.g. Tea bag folding, Iris Folding and Stamping), Patchwork, Crochet, Tatting and Beadwork. We also help each other keep up to date with new crafts and ideas.

On the last Saturday in June, we hold our annual Cross Stitch Day in the Village Hall. Now a popular event in the Crafters’ calendar it is attended by many crafters from the surrounding area and beyond. The regular craft supplier for the day is Gaynor who carries a wide and varied selection of cross stitch, lace making, card and paper craft items as well as other exciting craft goodies. Gaynor always has time to demonstrate her new items in stock to tempt us.

We meet on the third Monday in the month from 7.00pm -9.30pm Afternoon meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Thursday in the month from 1.00pm – 3.30pm. We make a small charge of £2 per session to cover the cost of the hall.

New members are very welcome.

Castlethorpe Historical Society

Castlethorpe Historical Society was formed at the end of 2014 and aims to make local history interesting and exciting for everyone — not just history buffs.

The society holds talks by guest speakers every two months, as well as organising trips to centres of local historical importance and some “hands on” historical research projects. The first of these projects was surveying the South Street paddock under the supervision of arcaheologist Mark Roberts and we discovered what appears to be the remains of a late medieval fishpond and a well-used cart track.

You can find details of the society’s programme of talks on the Village Diary page of this website. Membership is just £7.50 a year, which gives you free admittance to all the talks.

For more information contact Russell Forgham on 01908 510941.

Castlethorpe Women's Institute

Castlethorpe WI is 83 years old. We have 34 members and have been fortunate in the last two years to have some younger ladies join us. We meet on the 2nd Thursday of every month at the Village Hall at 7.45pm.

Our programme is varied. We arrange a Prelude to Christmas every two years in the Church. We have a social afternoon once a month in a member’s home. We are not a ‘Jam and Jerusalem’ WI.

We would be very pleased to welcome visitors to our meetings.

Give us a try – you may find you would like to join us.
