Castlethorpe Jubilee Celebrations

Castlethorpe celebrated the Jubilee on Monday 4th June with a series of events which brought the village together in a real sense of community spirit.

The day started with a lunch for our senior citizens at the village hall which had been royally decorated for the occasion. The picture shows Vera Clarke and Richard Sawbridge cutting the Jubilee cake.

During the afternoon, there was a children’s street party which was well attended. At the same time, there was a beer tent, cake stall and burger stand for other residents. This was clearly very successful as both the burgers and the beer ran out and new supplies of beer had to be fetched in.

In the evening, there was a barn dance at the village hall with dancing to the Oddsox and an accompanying pig roast. The event was a sell-out – unfortunately there is a limit on the number of people the village hall can hold.

The evening ended with a beacon being lit on Castle Field as part of the national beacon celebration.

All residents aged 16 and under are being given a commemorative coin by the Parish Council. Please contact Geraldine Sweetland on 511231 if you haven’t received a coin yet.

These events have been made possible by the efforts of a number of residents and by very generous donations by a local farmer and a number of other residents and the Parish Council.
