The Craft Club began in 1998 and is open to anyone interested in crafts.
Crafts include Cross Stitch, Bobbin lace making, Card making (e.g. Tea bag folding, Iris Folding and Stamping), Patchwork, Crochet, Tatting and Beadwork. We also help each other keep up to date with new crafts and ideas.

Craft Club

On the last Saturday in June, we hold our annual Cross Stitch Day in the Village Hall. Now a popular event in the Crafters’ calendar it is attended by many crafters from the surrounding area and beyond. The regular craft supplier for the day is Gaynor who carries a wide and varied selection of cross stitch, lace making, card and paper craft items as well as other exciting craft goodies. Gaynor always has time to demonstrate her new items in stock to tempt us.

We meet on the third Monday in the month from 7.00pm -9.30pm Afternoon meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Thursday in the month from 1.00pm – 3.30pm. We make a small charge of £2 per session to cover the cost of the hall.

New members are very welcome.

Castlethorpe Short Mat Bowls Club

Our club started in 2003 following the extension to the village hall which allowed for the necessary length and width of the mats. Initially we had 26 members and, despite a few sad departures plus some welcome new faces we have held our membership at 23 for the past three years. The age range of our membership is 90 to 16, we are one of the few organisations which can boast such a range. The majority of our members live in the village but we do have a couple from Cosgrove, Hanslope and Hartwell, all of whom play a very important part in the life of our club.

Over the past five years we have made our way up through the divisions of the Northamptonshire Short Mat Bowls Association League and we are currently top of the Premier division although our main aim for this year is to remain in that division. We welcome visitors from around the county of Northamptonshire to our hall for home games and we are justifiably proud of our facilities.

We would welcome some new members to join us and would like to make it very clear that we don’t expect you to be able to get it right straight away. The memories of when we first started are still very fresh in the minds of us all and we all know how it feels to watch the wood roll off the mat and into the ladies toilets. We would do our very best to help and encourage you all we can…we could also lend you a set of woods to have a try with.

Anyone interested, of any age but preferably over about eight, please feel free to come along on a Friday evening between 7.30 and 10.00pm when you would be made very welcome. We also meet on a Monday afternoon between 2 and 4 pm and a Tuesday evening between 7.30 and 10.00pm when we play most of our home league games.

Failing that, if you would like to speak to someone for some more background on us then give us a ring.

Castlethorpe Women's Institute

Castlethorpe WI is 76 years old. We have 34 members and have been fortunate in the last two years to have some younger ladies join us. We meet on the 2nd Thursday of every month at the Village Hall at 7.45pm.

Our programme is varied. We arrange a Prelude to Christmas every two years in the Church. We have a social afternoon once a month in a member’s home. We are not a ‘Jam and Jerusalem’ WI.

We would be very pleased to welcome visitors to our meetings.

Give us a try – you may find you would like to join us.
