Recycling prize speeds up village improvements

Castlethorpe has won the Silver Prize of £3,000 in MK Council’s competition to find the area with the biggest increase in recycling food waste in the green bins. Well done to everyone who helped us Green Bin It to Win It by increasing the recycling by 31.56%! At its April meeting the Parish Council voted unanimously to use the money to top up the funding for improvements to the Conservation Area, including a major tidy-up all round, new “heritage style” lampposts to replace the existing modern ones and new benches for the village green. This means the work can now start much earlier than originally anticipated.

Milton Keynes Council’s Corporate Director – Place, Duncan Sharkey, presented a cheque for £3,235, which also includes the payment the village receives for the pro rata increase in green bin recycling, to the Parish Council’s Chair and Vice-Chair, Philip Ayles and John Keane, at a special ceremony in the Village Hall on May 3rd.

Wolverton and Greenleys won the £5,000 Gold Prize.
