Want to stop smoking? Here's some help

Dear Castlethorpe residents

I am one of the two level 3 qualified specialist stop smoking advisors working from the public health team based in Milton Keynes Council. We offer one to one appointments in clinics across Milton Keynes with support and products to help anyone who wants to quit smoking. Our services of the 12 week programme are free to everyone and those who are exempt from prescription charges will also get products to help them quit for free (those that pay will pay just £8.05 standard prescription fee per fortnight for their products).

Products we can offer include Nicotine Replacement products such as:

  • Patches

  • Mouth sprays
  • Lozenges
  • Chewing gums
  • Inhalators

We can also prescribe a 12 week course of Champix or Zyban medication through the clients GP. These medications do not have any nicotine but work by reducing the p0ersoins desire to smoke by removing their physical enjoyment from smoking, and making it smell and taste unpleasant (therefore breaking the smoking cycle).

Help 24/7 at the press of a button

Do you know any older people who would benefit from an affordable alarm system in case of emergencies? Milton Keynes Community Alarm is a speech-based social alarm system that links into a standard telephone and offers peace of mind 24 hours a day.

When the alarm is installed you will be issued with a pendant button which can be word around your neck, on a belt clip or with a wrist strap. When you press the button you will automatically get through to the 24-hour control centre where a friendly operator will talk to you and arrange the most appropriate help for you, such as getting in touch with your family, contacting the emergency services or simply listeningto you and putting your mind at rest.
