November 11: Centenary of the end of the First World War

Castlethorpe will be celebrating the Centenary of the Armistice ending the First World War on Sunday 11 November with a series of events.

The annual village service of remembrance will be held at 9:15am at the War Memorial and a beacon will be lit on Castle Field at 7pm as part of a chain of beacons throughout the country commemorating all those who died in the war, followed by refreshments in the Village Hall and a special screening by the Historical Society of the film Journeys End, set in the trenches in the Great War and starring Sam Claflin, Paul Bettany, Asa Butterworth, Toby Jones and Steven Graham, which opened to glowing reviews earlier this year. Admission is free. The film has a 12A certificate and because of its subject matter may not be suitable for children under 10.
