July 27: Historical Society Talk

Castlethorpe Historical Society’s 2017 season of talks continues on Thursday July 27 in the Village Hall, starting at 7.30pm, with historian Gordon Rogers revealing all about the top-secret Buckinghamshire base nicknamed Winston Churchill’s ToyBox that developed the weapons which helped win the Second World War

Admission for non-members is £2. Membership of the society costs just £7.50 for the year and entitles you to free admission to all the society’s talks throughout 2017.

The other talks scheduled for the year are:

September 28: Carriages of the Olden Days

Amy Bracey has a passion for horse carriages and she knows everything there is to know about their development right up to the present day.

November 23: Frosts, Freezes and Fairs

Britain’s rivers froze solid for up to two months at a time during the winters of the “Little Ice Age” between 1600 and 1814. But far from being downhearted, the country took to the ice to celebrate in style, as meteorologist Ian Currie will reveal.
